Michael Ashmore is Chair, Finance & Investment Committee at University of Waterloo since 2022, overseeing the University’s C$600M of endowment assets, and a member of the Board of Governors since 2019. Michael was previously Director with the External Managers Program at OMERS, the $97 billion defined benefit pension plan. Prior to joining OMERS Capital Markets in 2015, Michael was a Vice President at The Carlyle Group – DGAM, where he led research on investments in various alternative investments. Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Economics with Honours, from the University of Waterloo, and is a CFA® Charterholder. He was selected as one of Chief Investment Officer magazine’s “2016 Forty Under Forty” and was a finalist for Institutional Investor magazine’s 2017 “Next CIO” award. Michael is an avid athlete, and is actively involved in a number of charitable efforts, mainly focused on youth education and opportunity.
